Knick-knacks for the Kitchen: Napa Style
Odds are, If you're spending time reading blogs about cooking, you probably like cute kitchen and table-ware? Am I wrong? No? Good. My family recently vacationed to the Napa Valley in California. I was surrounded not only by wine, but by kitchen gadgets, knick-knacks, and every variation of table-ware one could ever dream up. It was wonderful. I brought back two pieces of kitchen-ware (Is that a term? If not, I'm making it one.). They were fairly practical purchases... At least I'm telling myself that. I came back with a spoon rest (amazingly I didn't previously own one) and an olive wood cheese board. They are basically my new prized possessions in the kitchen.
So, let't talk about this spoon rest. I was at Castello di Amorosa in the Napa Valley, and the whole place was wonderful. I should start with the disclaimer of: It is a castle. A really big castle. I couldn't fit it all in one picture, but you get the idea. The family who built it is from Italy, as well as many of the employees, and almost everything in the gift shop. I hate the term gift shop. It sounds trashy. All this stuff was really nice. Anyways, spoon rest! So, almost everything in the gift shop *shudder* was imported from Including some glorious kitchen items. This little guy caught my eye. It's so pretty. I really love it. It's handmade, and hand-painted. I'm fearless when it comes to handmade items. I have no fear of a little lead apparently because I haven't let it stop me so far.
So, I'll describe this guy a little further. It came in a few different colors, but i settled on this with the coloring of my kitchen. It has a pretty hand painted rooster, some floral designs, a blue wash in the center. It's really nice, so here's a closer look.

There is the center. Oh so pretty and colorful, and you can catch a nice glimpse of the border there too.
One last picture of it. How I love my spoon rest so. I will post about the olive wood cheese board later. I simply was too caught up in this.
